One Google connection

Choose Connect Google for Gmail, Drive, encrypted Gmail chat, YouTube subscriptions, Calendar, Contacts, and your name and profile picture. Calendar and Contacts support creating and editing. Contacts scroll, search by name, email or phone across the full list, and offer 10, 25, 50 or 100 entries per page. Encrypted text chat works with personal Gmail accounts. Both people need this Workdesk version, their original identity keys and verified contact fingerprints. Browse and search mail, reply and forward, manage labels, save drafts and use attachments. Mail and SecureComm keys have separate local storage. Background notifications are periodic and may be delayed by Android.

Install as an update to preserve existing keys and pairings. No Desktop OAuth JSON or Firebase setup is needed on your phone.

Encrypted text chat through Gmail

Open Chat on Android or SecureComm on Linux and Windows. Choose Enable Gmail chat to check your existing Google connection. No Matrix account or Workspace subscription is needed for text chat.

1. Under Identity keys, unlock your original SecureComm key. Restore its encrypted offline backup when using another device. Drive keys are separate.
2. In Contacts & verification, enter the other person's connected Gmail address and public key. Existing local contacts can be imported for review.
3. Compare the complete fingerprint through a trusted separate channel and confirm it. Key changes require verification again.
4. Select the person in Conversations and send encrypted text. Both people must use Workdesk to read it.

Google receives ciphertext, email addresses, delivery times and a fixed subject. Gmail delivery can be delayed. The selected conversation refreshes while open and unlocked; there is no new Gmail background notification service. Sent means Gmail accepted the message, not that it was read. A send with an uncertain outcome is never retried automatically; refresh before deciding whether to send again.

Local history retains previous cached Matrix conversations. The new text-chat flow does not contact Matrix. Uncached history and attachment bytes cannot be downloaded from the archive. Calls and attachments are outside this migration.

Install on your phone

1. Scan the QR code or tap Download Android APK. You can use Wi-Fi or mobile data.
2. Open the APK from Downloads. Allow your browser to install this app when Android asks.
3. Install it as an update to preserve your existing Workdesk data and keys. Do not uninstall the existing app first.
4. Open Google and choose Connect Google once for Gmail, Drive, encrypted Gmail chat, YouTube, Calendar, Contacts, and your profile. Approve the services you want; no JSON import is needed. Calendar events and contacts can be created and edited. Choose WiFiJack for local-network audio or Chat for encrypted text. WiFiJack devices must still share a local network.

This public HTTPS website uses a publicly trusted certificate. No local CA certificate installation is needed.

Remote assistance included

Workdesk offers installation of the preconfigured Workdesk Remote companion on Android. Approve Android’s installation and screen/input permission prompts. Existing official RustDesk installations are kept separate. Remote connections require host approval.

Browse, upload and download encrypted files, manage folders and PGP keys on Android, Linux and Windows. No OAuth JSON import is required. Use an offline key backup to access the same encrypted files on multiple devices.

Install Workdesk on Debian 13

The signed APT installer installs Workdesk and its RustDesk dependency together. Download the script, review it, then run it with sudo:

Install the Debian package with sudo apt install ./workdesk_*.deb. Debian may still fetch system dependencies if they are missing. Stop remote sessions in the companion’s own controls.

Workdesk for Windows

The Windows x64 development pilot includes VB-CABLE audio integration and the RustDesk companion. Desktop installers include the Google client configuration; choose Connect Google after installation.
